Science Writer Needed

What is Lightning Science?

The mission of Lightning Science is to combat the growing problem of “fake science” published on websites and through social media.

We will publish articles on a wide range of scientific topics – both basic informational articles, and articles intended to directly refute scientific misinformation with evidence-based research.

Articles will be written for a general audience, and will include citations to authoritative sources.

Each article will feature a header image optimized for social media… this is content that is meant to be shared.

We will use social media to build an engaged community to spread our articles. Part of our user engagement strategy is a rapid response function. When a member alerts us of a new “bad science” post, we will evaluate the claims, and if appropriate, we will respond with a post created specifically to refute the misinformation.

The site will be funded through ads appearing on the site, affiliate sales programs for books and science-related items, and possibly premium memberships or newsletter subscriptions in the future.

About Lightning Science

The site was built in 2013, and after a few articles were posted, I was forced to stop operations due to health issues.

I am currently working on a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for a re-launch of the site. Funds will be used for:

  • A redesign of the site
  • Payments to writer(s)
  • Advertising and PR
  • Social Media marketing

Open Position

I am looking for one or more experienced science writers to contribute to the site. Site contributors will be encouraged to participate in site strategy, and will be expected to actively promote the site.

Each writer will be given a bio page on the site, which can include links to other articles and publications.

Please review the draft content that has been posted to date before responding. This content was written a few years ago, but it will give some idea of where we are heading. Anyone joining the team will have a large voice in the overall tone of the site.
